Washington University in St. Louis Department of Anthropology - Throop Addition

During this project our firm was working as a lab consultant for a new building addition. We worked closely with the lead architect to verify building dimensions needed to satisfy the lab requirements. In total three labs were constructed. All three lab areas were to be used for teaching purposes and had specific classes to be taught within them. One of the teaching labs was to have fixed casework with abundant storage area and areas to display artifacts. The display cases were custom designed to allow viewing from the lab and from the corridor while keeping the artifacts secure. The second teaching lab was to be for technology based mapping. So for collaboration a large fixed table was centered in the room with data and power supplied to it for the use of laptops. A large "smart board" was installed at the head of the classroom for presentations and lectures. The final teaching space was to be reconfigured easily so movable tables that could be powered were installed. Rubber tile flooring was installed to gain LEED credits as this was a LEED project and eventually achieved LEED silver.
